The study looks at behaviours exhibited by real suspects in police interviews relating to serious criminal offences.

 

The study is trying to establish whether there are any strereotyped behaviours exhibitied by liars by observing the suspects' behaviour

 

• making verifiably true statements

 

and comparing this to the behaviour when

 

• making verifiably false statements
