Tajfel - Intergroup Discrimination

Prejudice and discrimination are found in all groups an societies.  This study tries to determine what are the minimum conditions necessary for a group to create discriminating behaviour in its members.

 

Tajfel creates completely meaningless groups and then observes whether the membership of the group will affect the behaviour of the members towards members of other groups.

 

Tajfel's experiements led to the Social Identity Theory which is widely applied to explain behaviour in social psychology.
